FAQs

Here we answer your most frequently asked questions.

Q: What should I expect during my spray tan appointment?

A: Lotion will go on your hands and bottom of your feet to create a barrier where the solution will not stick. PHA balance spray will be applied to ensure the solution adheres to your skin properly. Once that is done, I then begin to apply the solution front to back within your comfort level. After the solution is applied, I will air dry the sprayed areas before you get redressed.

Q: What should I wear?

A: During your appointment you should wear whatever you are most comfortable in. Some choose to wear bottoms or swim suits. Men must wear bottoms. After your spray tan, you should wear loose fitting cotton clothing. Wear slip on shoes, nothing too tight.

Q: How long will my tan last?

A: Results will vary person to person. Typically, the tan will last between 5-7 days depending on how it is maintained.

Q: What’s the best way to maintain my tan?

A: Take warm/lukewarm showers, avoid using Dove soap (due to the additives in the soap that strip solution), don’t use abrasive cloths while showering, avoid alcohol-based perfume/cologne, and avoid any lotions that have a fragrance (Victoria Secret, Bath and Body Works). Anything that keeps your skin moisturized will ensure longer lasting tans. Lotions like Hempz or Sheamoisture. Be sure to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Q: Can I spray tan with a sunburn?

A: No. You can get a spray tan but the results will not be the best. Your skin will be healing from the sunburn and will become dehydrated. Dehydration of the skin results in peeling and cracking. The tan will become faded and start blotching as your skin repairs.

Q: Do I still need to wear sunscreen?

A: Yes! Spray tan solution does not contain any SPF and you can still get a sunburn. Lotion based sunscreen is recommended for use.

Q: What is DHA?

A: The active ingredient in most sunless tanning products is the color additive dihydroxyacetone (DHA). When applied, dihydroxyacetone reacts with dead cells in the skin’s surface layer to temporarily darken the skin and simulate a tan.

Q: Is spray tanning safe for someone who is pregnant?

A: The active ingredient is dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which is a non-toxic substance that reacts with skin cells. Since DHA isn’t tough enough to go beyond the outer layer of skin, it isn’t absorbed in to the body. However, with spray tanning, the effects of inhaling the spray are unknown. Consult a physician prior to spray tanning if there are concerns.

Q: When should I spray tan for upcoming/special events?

A: Typically, 1-2 days prior to event to allow time for development and for the solution to be washed off.

Q: Will the spray tan cover my tan lines?

A: Not completely. The spray tan will not completely cover tan lines. I will try my best to ensure you have a wonderful looking tan without lines. I would recommend that if you have an event coming up knowing that you want a spray tan, that you avoid the sun.
